Wigs have been around for centuries and are a great way to change up your hairstyle without committing to a permanent cut or colour. Whether you’re looking to add length, volume, or just switch up your look for a special occasion, wigs are a versatile option. However, if you’re new to wearing wigs, applying them can seem daunting. Please note our custom wigs come fully customised, styled and with baby hair (upon request). Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply a custom wig.
Step 1: Prepare your natural hair before applying your wig. Start by braiding your hair or putting it into a neat, low ponytail. This will help create a smooth base for your wig to sit on and prevent any bulges or bumps from showing through. Apply a stocking cap when completed.
Step 2: Adjust the wig if needed. Wigs typically come in standard sizes, but you may need to adjust the wig to fit your head properly. Most wigs have adjustable straps or hooks on the back that you can tighten or loosen to create a snug fit. Make sure the wig sits comfortably on your head and doesn’t slide around.
Step 3: Place the wig on your head and adjust the position until it sits comfortably and looks natural (apply makeup if needed). The wig should sit just above your hairline, with the front of the wig resting on your forehead. Use a comb or your fingers to style the wig and create a natural-looking part.
Step 4: Once the wig is in place, use bobby pins, wig clips to secure it to your natural hair. Start at the front of the wig and work your way back, placing pins or clips every few inches along the perimeter of the wig. Make sure the wig feels secure and doesn’t shift or move around. You can also melt your lace if needed using gel, spray or glue.
Step 5: Style the wig Now that your wig is securely in place, you can style it as desired. You can use heat styling tools, such as a curling iron or flat iron, to create waves or straighten the wig. You can also use hairspray or styling products to help hold the style in place.
Step 6: Care for your wig Proper care is important to keep your wig looking its best. Follow out storage instructions for washing and caring for your wig. Store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head when not in use to help maintain its shape and prevent tangling.
Wearing a wig can take some getting used to, but with a little practice, you’ll be able to apply and style your wig with ease. With so many styles and colours to choose from, wigs are a great way to experiment with different looks and express your personal style.
